Free Google Career Certificates for Camden residents 

Camden Council is working with Google to provide residents with online professional skills training in specialisms such as IT support, data analytics, project management and user experience design. Camden is the first council in the UK to join Google’s Career Certificates programme. 

The career certificates can take between a few weeks to six months to complete and will be offered free of charge to learners in Camden with aspirations to work in technology and IT. 

The programme officially launched on 11th March 2021, with over 500 enrolled so far. The self-learning course will be welcoming applicants until December 2022. 

• Digital Marketing: Digital Marketing experts focus their attention on driving brand awareness and lead generation through all the digital channels. By using paid, free and owned ads, digital marketers focus on each digital channel's key performance indicators (KPIs) to properly measure performance. You will learn how to use tools and platforms like Canva, Google Ad and Google Analytics. You will have a chance to build your own portfolio with projects like customer personas and social media calendars to show potential employers. You will also be able to build e-commerce stores, analyse online performance and grow customer loyalty.
• IT Support: IT support professionals use troubleshooting and problem solving to help computers and networks run smoothly, while providing great customer service. You’ll learn about building computers, networking, cloud computing, Windows, Linux command line, systems administration, encryption algorithms and techniques and more.
• Data Analytics: Data analysts prepare, process and analyse data to discover trends, make predictions and help inform business decisions. They create visualisations to share their findings and provide recommendations. Through this programme you will learn how to do this using common tools such as presentations, spreadsheets, SQL, Tableau and R.
• Project Management: Project managers are responsible for planning, organising and running projects so they are delivered on time and on budget. This programme will  teach you how to initiate, plan and run traditional and Agile projects, learning as you go how to manage a schedule, budget and team. 
• UX Design: UX designers make products and tools that are useful, accessible and enjoyable to use. You’ll learn how to complete the process from beginning to end, empathising with users, creating prototypes and using feedback to develop your product. You will also learn how to use Sigma and Adobe XD, creating a portfolio of three projects to show employers.

Camden Council and Good Work Camden has partnered with the Rebel Business School to help want-to-be business owners and existing start-ups get their ideas off the ground and support business growth in Camden.  

Rebel Business School offers an alternative to traditional business start-up courses and aims to work direct with communities to give people the information and skills they need to start a business - all without borrowing money and without a formal business plan. 

The free training courses are designed to inspire and help you to find the confidence to develop your business ideas. The course is free and open to all residents, no previous business experience or plan required.

• Legal aspect to running a business
• How to stay motivated and build confidence

The majority of the course will be run online. However, to help combat the digital divide and ensure the course is accessible to everyone some sessions may be held in-person. Contact the Rebel Business School course organiser via the sign-up link above for more information. 

If you’re a lone parent and you’re interested in looking for a new job, to re-enter employment, or want to expand your skillset by attending training or education sessions, you may be eligible for a grant worth up to £1,500 to cover childcare costs while attending job interviews, training or education sessions. The fund can also cover costs associated with employment search, training or education, such as travel, clothing, equipment and many more. If you’re eligible, Good Work Camden will pay childcare costs directly – you won’t need to pay for it and wait to be reimbursed.

Eligibility criteria

To receive childcare funding, you will need to fall into at least one of the following categories:

• Be actively looking for a new job
• Seeking or be involved with training and/or education
• Be unemployed or economically inactive 
• According to an assessment, need childcare support

As part of the application process, you will also need to confirm the existing childcare support you receive.

Camden Council has a partnership with LabTech to provide pop-up market stall.

Market stalls will be situated on Buck Street and Camden Market between July and August 2022, in the heart of Camden and London.  

Buck Street is formed of vibrantly coloured recycled shipping containers, and sits at the centre of Camden's bustling high street. Just a short walk from Camden Market, Buck Street reflects sustainable and eco-conscious future. 

The LabTech offer includes:
•    Market stall at Buck Street or Camden Market 
•    Funding contribution to purchase initial stall equipment 
•    Access to enterprise support training 

The opportunity is open to Camden residents and/or businesses located in Camden. Please be advised retail goods would be preferable for Camden Market and Buck Street. Buck Street has a no plastic, real fur, silver policy. Due to food safety restrictions, food products are not permitted for both markets.
