Area Based Schemes

Transport improvement schemes are called Area Based Schemes. They usually take a number of years to complete and include public consultations.

Areas Based Schemes include:

  • Camden and Kentish Town
  • Chalk Farm and Primrose Hill
  • the West End
  • Holborn
  • Farringdon and Kings Cross
They aim to:
  • improve access to local services and facilities
  • encourage more walking, cycling and public transport use
  • improve road safety – for example by adding new crossing points
  • improve public spaces and streets – for example, planting trees and improving pavements
  • designing streets and public spaces which reduce the change of crime and anti-social behaviour
  • allow tourism and businesses to succeed
They can be funded by Camden Council, Transport for London and developer contributions.
